Copyright Statement

Much of the artwork on this site is being offered as a historical archive to preserve part of our American creative heritage. The aim of this site is to provide educational and creative reference for those interested in embroidery and needlework in 20th century America. As with any library, its resources are intended for personal, educational, and non-profit use. They are not intended to be printed and sold.

NeedleCrafter.com is a library of images from several sources.

Those drawings which are original, and those recreated using reference from existing embroidered textiles, belong to NeedleCrafter.com and are protected under copyright. The designs on this site which were recreated using finished embroidery pieces as reference have been researched, and when possible, the original publisher is named. These designs are being offered for personal and educational purposes only. No permission is given to reproduce these images for sale or inclusion on another website.

Regarding those images which come from vintage transfers in my personal collection, these transfers have no copyright marking, no date, and often no named publisher. These transfers are out of print, and the companies which produced them are no longer in business. At the time of publication, these transfers were intended for mass distribution, typically as a means to boost the circulation of the various publications which offered them. The artwork itself was created on a work made for hire basis, which means that the images did not belong to the artist, but rather to the companies which employed them.

I am making this artwork available under the terms of copyright span and fair use. Under the law in effect before 1978, the copyright endured for a first term of 28 years from the date it was secured. The vintage transfers posted on NeedleCrafter.com are 30-50 years old. Whenever possible, the original publisher is credited.

Under the terms of fair use, it is not a copyright violation if the purpose and character of the use is for research or non profit educational purposes. There is no instance of a design being offered that in any way has an affect upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work. As such, offering copies of this existing artwork does not take away income from lawful copyright holders.
