Girl Among Flowers

DMC cotton floss on
unbleached muslin
10.5" x 12"

The reference for this piece was a really poor photo of a pillow from the 1930s. It was more of an experiment in fabric tinting using Pentel Fabricfun Pastel Dye Sticks (marketing jargon for "fabric crayons"). I can't recommend them for covering large areas, since the crayon strokes don't blend well. Excellent for kids' projects though: easy to use and non-toxic.

If I work this design again, I will make it taller so that it fits properly inside a standard 11" x 14" frame. For a pillow, I would extend the sides (adding more trees and flowers) to accommodate a standard square pillow form.
